Vanderbilia: Long Island Motor Parkway Certificates Sell on eBay for $4,800
A set of nine Long Island Motor Parkway stock certificates were sold this week on an eBay auction for $4,800.
This was the seller's description:
I am selling a booklet of 9 original stock certificates for the Long Island Motor Parkway. The stocks were issued in 1909 to the Ridgefield Land Company, J.P. Morgan, William K. Vanderbilt, William Vanderbilt Jr., Harry Payne Whitney, Payne Whitney, Daniel Guggenheim, William Rockefeller, and Anton S. Hodenpyl.
Each certificate is signed by William K. Vanderbilt Jr. (the founder of the Long Island Motor Parkway). There are also signatures from Payne and Harry Whitney, Guggenheim, and Hodenpyl. The certificates issued to Rockefeller and J.P. Morgan are stamped and signed by the executor of their estates.
The certificates are bound together and are in good condition. There is a minor fold on the left side of the booklet but no crease.
These certificates are one of a kind and a great part of Long Island's history.

Fascinating find. You never know what’s to be found on Ebay. It would be interesting to know who the seller was, how he acquired them and so forth.
