Documenting W.C. Fields on the Long Island Motor Parkway in 1925
At Thursday's meeting of the Long Island Motor Parkway Preservation Society, people were fascinated by the post of the 1925 film "Sally of the Sawdust". As a follow-up to several requests, here is my documentation of where I believe D.W. Griffith filmed W.C. Fields on the Motor Parkway.

Film: W.C Fields Driving On the Long Island Motor Parkway in “Sally of the Sawdust”
John has forwarded this D.W. Griffith film "Sally of the Sawdust". Starring Carol Dempster, W.C. Fields, and Alfred Lunt, the film was shot in Bayside, Greenwich an on the "Motor Parkway" in 1925.

The Motor Parkway Toll Collection Structures: #3 & 4 The Great Neck Lodge & Kiosk in Lake Success
Going west to east, the third and fourth Motor Parkway toll collection structures were the Great Neck Kiosk and Great Neck Lodge located 350-feet east of Lakeville Road in Lake Success.

The Repair and Tire Stations of the Vanderbilt Cup Races
The winners of the Vanderbilt Cup Races of Long Island were typically not the fastest cars but the ones that were the most durable with the fewest tire problems. The car and tire manufacturers assisted the drivers by setting up repair and tire stations throughout the courses.

Then & Now: Maple Cottage- The Locomobile Headquarters for the 1905 and 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Races
Racing teams for the Vanderbilt Cup Races typically had local headquarters to store and work on their racers and also provide lodging. In 1905 and 1906, the Locomobile team from nearby Bridgeport, Connecticut set up their headquarters at Maple Cottage, a farmhouse and inn located in Lakeville (now Lake Success).
