    The 1914 Menu from Petit Trianon on the Motor Parkway in Lake Ronkonkoma, L.I.

    When the Long Island Motor Parkway route was completed to Lake Ronkonkoma in 1911, officials decided to build a first-class dining facility and half-way stop for travelers. The 1914 menu provided a wide selection of food as expected by the high-clientele of the inn.

    John Russell Pope’s Last Motor Parkway Commission in Garden City

    William K. Vanderbilt Jr's favorite architect for the Motor Parkway was John Russell Pope, who designed the first six toll lodges and the Petit Trianon Inn. Pope's last Motor Parkway commission was to design a Garden City office building in 1912 to be built adjacent to the Garden City Lodge.

    Then &  Now: Petit Trianon

    As described yesterday, in 1911 the Long Island Motor Parkway Inc. built the Petit Trianon Inn as an attraction to the eastern terminus in Lake Ronkonkoma. Today, the Petit Trianon receives the "Then and Now" treatment with images from 1911 to 2008.
